In 1949 Dr Karl Plate, the inventor of the first monofilament artificial fishing line registered this under today’s worldwide known trading name In 1993, the production was moved from Bonn to Hennef.
, which, at this time, dealt exclusively with the manufacture of monofilaments using all of the available world market thermoplastics, took over production. Now the monofilament is provided by a monofilament specialist.

The name is derived from two words:
the first part from “Dr. Plate”, the inventor of the monofilament fishing line; the second part from the word “Filament” (=thread), which resulted in the patented product.
