MONOFIL-TECHNIK GmbH classifies all of their monofilament fishing line under the oldest protected brand name -- PLATIL®.
In 1949 Dr Karl Plate, the inventor of the first monofilament artificial fishing line registered this under today’s worldwide known trading name PLATIL®. In 1993, the PLATIL® production was moved from Bonn to Hennef.
MONOFIL-TECHNIK GmbH, which, at this time, dealt exclusively with the manufacture of monofilaments using all of the available world market thermoplastics, took over production. Now the monofilament PLATIL® is provided by a monofilament specialist.

The name PLATIL® is derived from two words:
the first part from “Dr. Plate”, the inventor of the monofilament fishing line; the second part from the word “Filament” (=thread), which resulted in the patented product.
